WORKSHOP SESSIONS
A brief outline of tentative workshop sessions is given below.
- Success in graduate school. This session will provide tips for success in graduate school from the perspective of faculty members at top graduate programs, current graduate students in statistics or biostatistics, and other select facilitators.
- Diversity Dialogue. This session will include a dialogue with invited heads of statistics programs, allowing them to ask candid questions and hear directly from workshop participants (students, recent graduates, and faculty from minority-serving institutions) on issues of mentoring, recruiting, and retaining students of color in graduate programs.
- The American Statistical Association: More than just JSM. This session will include an address from the ASA President or other ASA leader. It will also include an overview of the opportunities available through ASA, including information on various sections and committees and opportunities for volunteerism.
- Early Career Success. This session will focus on an interactive sharing of experiences and advice to equip statistics professionals who are new in their careers with tools for success.
- Helping one another: opportunities for collaboration. This session will provide an interactive forum for participants to share research and service interests and begin to establish collaborations.
- Careers in Statistics. This session will provide an overview of career opportunities for statisticians, including an in-depth look at a few select careers.
- Connections to resources. This session will share information on resources relevant to the participants at their various career levels. Examples may include resources for research funding, REU’s, internships, career searches, networking with other statisticians, etc.
